The 70mm achromatic doublet lens delivers 8x magnification with chromatic aberration correction that is essential for accurate color shade comparison — the uncorrected color fringing of single-element lenses at high magnification introduces false color artifacts that compromise shade identification. A built-in perforation gauge is engraved on the front edge of the lens frame at actual scale, allowing the user to gauge stamp perforations directly in the magnified view while the stamp remains in position. The examination platform is a reversible white/black surface with a watermark examination well — a recessed area filled with watermark fluid for immersion watermark examination.
